Community Engagement For BCHC, community engagement includes a vast set of capacities that allow us to link the development of ourselves as citizens to the development of the communities we live in. When one is ‘engaged’ in their community we notice a sense of belonging or connectedness, a sense of awareness of ones’ own passions and interests and a willingness to participate in collective action for the common good. When many are engaged in their community a broad array of talents, skills and ideas emerge and there is a greater sense of ownership and empowerment to influence the community visions, goals and decisions.

The BCHC Approach for engagement involves people in a meaningful way, increasing personal connectedness and fostering collective thought and action. In any community, there will always be a spectrum of readiness, ability and willingness to engage in a participatory process. Just as a community is in a constant state of evolution and development, so is each individual in a constant state of “unfolding” their potential. Thoughtful engagement can meet people where they are at, building on strengths and assets while creating conditions for meaningful contribution.
